Hockey player Jesse Kortuem has publicly come out as gay, sharing how the TV show 'Heated Rivalry' inspired him to embrace his identity. Growing up, Kortuem struggled to reconcile his sexuality with the sport, fearing backlash and team dynamics.
He remained closeted for years, even after returning to competitive hockey as an adult. In 2017, Kortuem discovered community at a gay hockey tournament and now skates with Vancouver’s Cutting Edges Hockey Club.
